Nottingham Forest 3-1 Wigan Athletic: mini match report

After an encouraging, if not earth-shattering first win for Martin O'Neill, Baz reviews the match. Although he didn’t think Wigan had much to offer, he had good words to say about the midfield (in particular the return of club captain Ben Watson), and the gaffer’s tactical tweaks. He also praises the fans for singing Pants’ name despite his potentially costly first-half error.

What a difference a win makes!

Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest: mini match report

With speculation about the manager seemingly on the backburner (although now firing again, at the time of writing), Forest took their makeshift defence to Chelsea, who put out a strong team, exemplified by a misfiring £60m striker getting two goals, a World Cup winning Spaniard seeing his penalty saved, and Eden Hazard coming on as a substitute. Although the Premier League team’s power and guile proved too much for Forest, there was some pride in the Reds’ resilience.

We discuss the visitors’ tactics, the contribution of the referee (did he actually affect the outcome of the game) and the weaknesses in a performance where no Forest player stood out, despite Karanka’s change of formation and tactics via an unexpected double substitution.

Dancing in the dark: Forest Ramble Podcast, October 2018

This month’s podcast debates the Reds’ positive form since the last international break, with Forest finding different ways to get results. We lavish praise on Lolley, show gratitude for the goals of Grabban and Murphy, discuss our Deutsch defender and whether Pants is (ahem) pants, but we barely mention the floodlight failure against Millwall.

Is Evangelos Marinakis a magnate for trouble? Forest Ramble Podcast, April 2018

In April's Forest Ramble podcast, we discuss whether Aitor Karanka can bring success to the City Ground, we look at whether we can learn any lessons from the good old days, and we wonder whether our shipping magnate is merely attracting trouble.

Ruthless Reds boss purges players after Preston palaver: Forest Ramble, February 2018
