Let’s be honest, the result wasn’t much of a surprise, but Steven Toplis found much to be encouraged about from the Reds’ trip to Stamford Bridge at the weekend.

With speculation about the manager seemingly on the backburner (although now firing again, at the time of writing), Forest took their makeshift defence to Chelsea, who put out a strong team, exemplified by a misfiring £60m striker getting two goals, a World Cup winning Spaniard seeing his penalty saved, and Eden Hazard coming on as a substitute. Although the Premier League team’s power and guile proved too much for Forest, there was some pride in the Reds’ resilience.
