Martin's midfield matters: Forest Ramble Podcast, March 2019 (video version)

In March’s Forest Ramble Podcast, Rich Ferraro and Steven Toplis explore the importance of midfield, which won us the Derby game, but lost us the fixture against Villa. The podcast team also mention the officials (do Premier League referees ever do well in the Championship?), and the odd disconnect between the positivity at the City Ground, and the doom and gloom on social media and comments pages.

Nottingham Forest 1-3 Aston Villa: mini match report (video version)

A disappointing night at the City Ground, as Forest once again failed to win two matches in a row, and simultaneously surrendered their strong recent home record. Steven Toplis reflects on Villa’s strengths, Forest’s areas for improvement, and saves some special words for the performances of Celebrity Ref Mike Dean and the Villains’ role as… well, villains.

Nottingham Forest 3-0 Hull City: mini match report (video version)

In the end it seemed quite comfortable, but it took seventy minutes and two attacking substitutions to get there. Rich Ferraro and Baz review Forest’s victory over Hull City.

Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derby County: Forza Garibaldi! Forest Ramble Podcast EXTRA, February 2019 (video version)

Six points off the play-offs - thanks ref! Forest Ramble Podcast, February 2019 (video version)

In February’s Forest Ramble, Rich Ferraro, Steven Toplis and the Maradona Of The Midlands discuss the circumstances that have clearly cost the Reds six points this season, making the difference between the play-off places and mid-table obscurity; do these things really even themselves out over the course of a season?

Chelsea 2-0 Nottingham Forest: mini match report

With speculation about the manager seemingly on the backburner (although now firing again, at the time of writing), Forest took their makeshift defence to Chelsea, who put out a strong team, exemplified by a misfiring £60m striker getting two goals, a World Cup winning Spaniard seeing his penalty saved, and Eden Hazard coming on as a substitute. Although the Premier League team’s power and guile proved too much for Forest, there was some pride in the Reds’ resilience.

Notttingham Forest 4-2 Leeds United: mini match report

A 4-2 victory over Leeds United just after Christmas, Forest one place outside the play-offs in a season that hasn’t been smooth but has shown promise - surely not another managerial departure?

Rich Ferraro and Baz review an entertaining encounter at the City Ground, where the players seemingly responded to the situation surrounding Aitor Karanka, and apparently put paid to the rumours that the Spaniard had lost the dressing room.

Home discomforts and squad strengthening: Forest Ramble Podcast, December 2018

This month Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis, the Maradona Of The Midlands and Baz, to look back at a tricky set of fixtures for the Reds. There were two frustrating home defeats to Preston North End and Queen’s Park Rangers, but also encouraging away displays (for entirely different reasons) at Aston Villa and Derby County. We review the defensive difficulties of losing three of your centre-halves, and the knock-on effect at full-back, discuss the importance of the holding midfield roles, and whether Aitor Karanka’s tactical shuffles have been (and can be) effective.

Nottingham Forest 0-1 QPR: mini match report

Rich Ferraro and Baz review a disappointing afternoon at the City Ground, where the players seemed a bit flat, incurring the wrath of Aitor Karanka. We discuss the visitors’ tactics, the contribution of the referee (did he actually affect the outcome of the game?) and the weaknesses in a performance where no Forest player stood out, despite Karanka’s change of formation and tactics via an unexpected double substitution.
